Yeah, population growing out of control is real. I hate communism but you must put some kind of limit on the number of children someone can have. We have it right here in the West, just let people pay for their own damn children and see how those abortions go up real fast! Planned parenthood is what distinguishes us from animals and 1.4 billion Chinese is about enough for that region and the world, thank you very much :)

Making fun of a nation without knowing or studying its history won't make you noble, but do make you famous, which however is cheap, I am afraid. 540M population was doubled in 30 years after CCP established the new country and implemented encourage-birth policy, because of too many people died in wars (For the soul lost in wars which your nation was part of, is it funny?). And this finally led to the birth control policy in 1980. This is NOT about CCP override human rights, but about people exploring all ways of how to develop this country in most healthy and efficient ways. From a political perspective, nothing is absolutely right or wrong, but I see with my own eyes that Chinese are growing and getting away from poverty with our amazing and world-shocking speed. What are you doing now?

China is the biggest shithole you could ever live. Your life is controlled by the government and is worth less than nothing. You can find thousands of videos of people dying in the middle of the streets and no one calls the police, no one cleans them up.

John, apparently, has no idea how over-population and its consequences work. He's sitting in his cushy studio and thinks food, health services, jobs, and social support mechanisms grow on trees. A two child policy makes sense everywhere in the world. There should be increasing taxes for additional children. All environmental, energy, and employment problems are solved if we control population grown and go down to a reasonable number that can be supported by earth. There's no logical reason to aimlessly fill the earth with humans. We need to aim to improve the quality of life for humans on this earth rather than aim to increase the quantity of people in it. As usual, John is not addressing the main issue here.

Must also think of the consequences if there was no one child policy.Population 2 billion, two female to every male?. Also, what is wrong with improving the economy so people can have a better life to remain in power?. Isn't thst what every govt does?.Either by promising the people a better economy and better life to get into power,or once in power remind the people how much they have done for them to get re-elected. Isn't satisfying the people, winning the people over, the only way to get into power and remain in power?.

China has over 1.4 billion people. If there are 34 million more men than women, that's only about 2% of the population. Why is this clown acting like there are no women in China? I bet there are more losers buying sex dolls in the US than there are in China. I mean, just look at 4chan..

You can criticize the policy all you want, but it was necessary for China at the time. Only downside I see is the gender selection. If that wasn’t allowed, it would have been perfect. China is seeing the benefits of that policy now, and in my opinion, they should have continued it for 100 more years. Quality of life does matter and it goes down with quantity, it is the rule of thumb in any given situation. India also badly needs this policy.

Think about it. The US has basically a no-child policy for poor people. Everyone is fined at the hospital. I mean, no forced sterilizations or abortions (that we know of) but it's definitely a deterrent to having children. Hmmm...

Before the "one child policy" there was actually a “Russian Mother policy” at the beginning of the 50's when China and Russia were still allies. The government wanted all Chinese parents to follow the footsteps of the Russian Mothers that have 7-8 children on average. Mostly because the governement was gearing up for another foreign invasion, which never came. That was the reason for why the population got out of control in the first place.

Women have always had more value than men. Men have to fight for their affection. Men have to proposition her. Impress her. Support her. Just by showing up for the date, she has done everything she needs to do. As if Westernized women weren't privileged enough....can you even begin to imagine how much value Chinese women have??? Good lord. The average American woman has like 5 orbiters at any given time. Chinese women probably have 100 orbiters. The thirst is real. Tragic.

This is what happens when you treat people as things. This is why abortion should be legal and the death penalty banned, EVERYWHERE. This is why no government should be allowed to engage in population control. No oversight body can be trusted with the power of life OR death. Those are zero-sum outcomes, and if the regulation is abused, it can have irreversible repercussions.

We need to evolve past such a primitive instinct to find a mate and procreate as if that defines us as humans. Perhaps at some point yes our survival depended on bearing numerous children and forming a family to increase survival but nowadays none of that is necessary to survive. I say yes to population control. All over the word including the USA we see examples of how passive family planning just does not work.

And in addition to all that, as he mentioned the one-child policy implementation was done at the regional/local level. Even with the 2016 rollback at the national level, some of the restrictions and other discouragements against more than one child remain in place even now, regardless of the legality. It's not so simple to change a 40 year old policy of this scope.
